So, you are interested in attending the World of Concrete (corporate trade show for the concrete industry) and you are not sure where to begin? There reasons to attend trade shows and get excited about these events and each are described below. Every industry professional approaches trade shows with a different agenda in mind, but the ultimate goal is to leave with a better understanding of the business as a whole. Here are 4 of our top reasons to attend the World of Concrete:

#1: Learning opportunities are available around every corner:

At a trade show, you have the opportunity to learn from industry experts. There are not only workshops you can attend on-site, but you can also sign up for future workshops and certification courses. There are also demonstrations you can sign up for or participate in. often times, there are so many learning opportunities offered that it is impossible to participate in them all during one trade show, so schedule your time accordingly. If there is an opportunity to sign up for workshops later on, it is highly recommended that you do so in order to receive as much education and experience as possible.

#2: There are many networking possibilities during trade shows:

In addition to making new contacts, you will also be meeting other industry professionals. When adding new business cards to your ever growing list of contacts, share new ideas with each of these people as often as possible. in turn, it is also just as important to learn new ideas from as many people as possible. Networking is just as much about sharing as it is about receiving new information. Larger trade shows offer opportunities for you to hold on-site meetings with colleagues, or with new contacts you have made through networking. There are also opportunities to host specialize networking events that are focused on informational exchanges.

TIP- Bring lots of business cards, take notes and ask questions of new people you meet!

#3: Product demonstrations are occurring on a regular basis:

Trade shows are an excellent opportunity for you to learn about new product offerings, as well as comparison shop for existing products already available on the market. If you need to have a face-to-face question and answer session with a product manufacturer, this is the time to do this also. If you need to hold a conversation with potential suppliers, seize the opportunity to do this as well. Talk to as many people as you can and, those you are unable to hold a discussion with, exchange contact information with them so you can reach them later.

TIP- Plan out your day ahead of time so you can hit the trainings you want and see which have make up sessions. Ask if any of the sessions will be available for video or audio later.

#4: The opportunity to take a working vacation:

When is the last time you were able to feel like you were on vacation while you were actually working? That is exactly what attending a trade show is like. Not only will you be able to have fun while attending the social events that are planned during the trade show, as well as any other site seeing tours the event planners have on the agenda, but you will essentially be working through what seems like a vacation. The key is to have fun while meeting and learning from the best in the industry.

When you walk away from this experience, you will be armed with knowledge and experience you did not know you needed. You will also have contacts to people that will be able to help further strengthen and build you career. There are many skilled professionals in the concrete industry that help shape our careers, and trade show professionals will lead us in the direction we need toward building strong and successful companies.

Tip- Plan a few after hour site seeing sessions and maybe ask a few locals where the best spot to eat is. Invite a peer in the industry to join you so you can have more time to build business connections.

We would love to hear from you. What other things would you add to our list?
